The Story of Dunfermline Advocacy Initiative

Some of our Management Committee and Staff

Dunfermline Advocacy Initiative was established in 1992. It has worked from then as a formal organisation, and for several years before that on an informal basis, to develop and support Citizen Advocacy in West Fife. In the early days this work was particularly for people who were living in, and moving out of Lynebank Hospital – a large hospital in West Fife for people labelled as having a learning disability.

DAI is an independent voluntary organisation matching responsible local citizens with people, living in West Fife, who have learning disabilities. The Initiative is managed by an independently constituted Management Committee who are all members of the local community in West Fife.

The Initiative’s remit is to:
• Create Citizen Advocacy Partnerships
• To provide Crisis Advocates in cases of urgent need
• To help build a fairer community.
